Being Dead
Being Dead
By Christine Orio

Will I be good
at being dead?
sentient
to Every Thing

swirling in minds
of soulful creatives,
hearts of lovers
and northern wind?

I might lend myself
to fluttering bees wings
or the fluted flowers
they gorge

a sunlit pixel
on rainbow’s spectrum—
fractured,
but completely seen.

To glimpse the illimitable
in such adventure
while dressed still
in humanity’s cloak

calms the beast
fortified in fear,
who steals me
from grace of presence.

Christine Orio is a professional classical musician, writer, and yoga instructor. A lifelong lover of the arts, she believes artistic expression serves as a bridge toward meaningful relationships with self, society, and our natural environment. Her writing has appeared in Hudson Valley Writers Guild’s Poetic License exhibitions and was featured in the poetry anthology Writing the Land: Rensselaer County, New York (NatureCulture, 2025). Christine lives in an agricultural community in Upstate, New York, finding inspiration from the spectacular views and wildlife which surround her. If she doesn’t answer her phone, she’s most likely on the tractor building garden beds.
